The depth of the shadows, and the subtlety, is really successful. The line quality is really nice, too. Especially in the teeth of the top one and the nasal cavity/brow ridge on the bottom one.

thanks. pencil has always best my best medium. my favorite detail is that crack on the upper left hand side of the smaller skull. it looks really convincing to me.

all the cracks are very convincing.

so why don't you draw more often, hmm?

i wish i could, i get fraustrated because i don't always have the drive or inspiration to work on a piece for hours. i love it when it happens, when i'm completely in my zone and can be totally absorbed in what i'm drawing. but i think i allow too much activity and stress during my day for that. i know if i made an effort to allow for more time to make art, perhaps going to art school, then i would be a far better artist. i cheerish pieces like this because i have so few of them...

You should just doodle all the time. Like at work. Don't worry about making "drawings". It's like stretching before a work-out... or more like the warm-up, I guess. Just sketch random stuff everywhere. You'd be surprised how gratifying it is, to release yourself from the drive to "make a piece of art". Some of my doodles are my best drawings.
